Corey Hayman

Statement Being a black female artist, understanding the marginalisation in which that posits her, Corey Hayman’s practice tends to focus on her affiliation and experience of racial and social identity. Her work is borne out of primary experiences with found materials/subject matter which (emotionally) resonate strongly with her and hold in her mind, an authoritative demeanour.

At the core of her process, although informed by many crucial decisions, such as appropriation, visual potency and curatorial prowess, lies the concept which is immensely important to her and tirelessly thought through. At times this promotes a depth where the conversation surrounding the visual element becomes highly inclusive within the engagement of the work. The form of Hayman’s work varies, depending on the subject matter, adapting and developing appropriately, resulting in the employment of a broad-range of approaches to communicate that resonance at best, through text, books, video, and performance.

Biography Corey Hayman was born in Coventry in 1990. She studied at Coventry University, graduating in 2012. She was awarded the Karen Trusselle Prize in 2012. She was awarded the New Art West Midland Bursary and Runners-Up Prize in 2013.
